- While you can't prevent one arriving at such a predicament, there are a few
- precautions one can take to reduce the chances:
-
- 1. Grow up sufficiently before one gets an SO.
-
- 2. Choose an SO that is sufficiently grown up.
-
- 3. Have a reasonable idea of the different ways one may want to live his/her
- life now and in the future and choose an SO based on that.
-
- 4. Get an understanding of how one's SO may wish to live his/her life now and in
- the future and ponder where one might fit in that picture.
-
- 5. Remember that one has control (more than most people give credit for) over
- what one wants to change and/or grow into and evaluate it in the context of the
- limitations that every relationship imposes.
-
- If you are not in a position to do any of the above or things change despite
- the above precautions, realize that maintaining a relationship with someone
- is as much a matter of good fortunes as finding someone suitable to start it
- with in the first place.
