  23. Oh yes indeed.  One thing that tends to work against us is
  24. just this complacency you mention.  For instance, quite a
  25. number of LGB people themselves have the impression that
  26. because things have improved in various ways during the past
  27. generation, they need not really be that concerned about our
  28. issues.  Most of us have probably heard someone say, "Oh, I'm
  29. not political," or "I don't like politics," or "I don't want
  30. to be involved," etc.

  32. But as you note, I think quite correctly, the fortunate
  33. circumstances we *may* (I emphasize that word) be enjoying
  34. now are only a part of the overall problem, and I would say
  35. not a large part at that.  The leverage of a progressive
  36. person at the top can be enormous, but policy is implemented
  37. by bureaucracies and carried out by our fellow citizens, and
  38. it is *there* we must always be ready with a reasoned,
  39. principled activism.  And grassroots is the mainstay.
