  32. I don't want to get into the gun-control thing.  My point
  33. was only that getting it mixed into the antifascism discussion
  34. was counterproductive.

  45. I think the first part, having a better program, *is* on
  46. target.

  48. Is that the proper working definition of conservative?  I
  49. don't see them as wanting to maintain the status quo (there
  50. is lots they would seek to undo) so much as trying to return
  51. to 19th-century conditions and the institutional models in
  52. place in those simpler times.

  55. are always weak on organization?  I don't think it's true.
  56. I said liberals were weak on organization because they're
  57. usually committed to doing as little as possible and to
  58. accommodating the wider spectrum of views.

  64. On the face of it, this would seem to be true.  But
  65. activists are not a monolith.  What I called liberalism, is
  66. usually less well organized, even in its activism, than
  67. fascists, theocrats, and libertarians (the last especially;
  68. they have a party).

  73. Valid up to a point, I think.  But the fascists have been
  74. gaining and in the past several years at an alarming rate.
  75. Wasn't it you who mentioned in a subsequent posting that the
  76. fundamentalist have taken over a couple Southern California
  77. local governments?  We have three of them (not a majority,
  78. but too many) on the Madison school board.

  81. entitled to citizenship; having such a view in the White
  82. House is moving rather too close to the status quo.

  88. whole is well to the right of center.  Ask any European,
  89. almost.
