  20. people is mostly not used to having to deal with us on a more-than
  21. -abstract basis.

  23. Back when I lived in a relatively progressive college town in Illinois,
  24. I used to hang out at a cafe where most of the regulars are proud
  25. liberals who will probably sign petitions to end the ban on gays
  26. in the military etc etc. One day, in the cafe, I spontaneously
  27. frenchkissed a gay male friend. The conversation level in the cafe
  28. dropped audibly and the collective gasp was quite memorable...
