- This is not a question of symbolism vs. substance, at least where gay rights
- is concerned. The question is not whether Clinton sends a message that
- discrimination is wrong; he sends that message either way, simply by
- reversing the ban. The question is whether or not he appears to be pushing the
- military around -- which would be politically expensive for him at this point
- in time. If doing it in a roundabout way lets him conserve his political
- capital for other battles, I say more power to him.

- And I really don't think we should be considering putting pressure on Clinton
- when he's doing the right thing, just not in the way we might prefer. Let's
- save it for when he's doing the wrong thing.
