- My understanding is that the figures about the wealth of the average
- queer is gathered by a market research firm in Chicago. For those who
- don't know, market research firms have a very vested interest in making
- the market they can advise on sound REALLY RICH AND REALLY BIG. They
- don't actually lie, but they distribute questionaires in higher class
- places and the like, knowing that the natural self selection process
- will skew the data.
-
- Its a lot like all the industry trade magazines that offer subscriptions
- to "qualified" people. What qualifies you is that you say that you are
- an important executive in your company and have oodles of money to spend
- on computer equipment. Of course, most average lackeys (like me) have
- the sense to lie and say that they personally influence million dollar
- budgets, and viola, free subscription. The magazine then sends out these
- wonderful profiles to potential advertisers touting the amount of
- sway their readership has. So it goes.
-
- The problem is that 90% of all people believe that as long as you can
- quote numbers, you must really know what you're talking about.
