- Today's (1/21/93) New York Times reported (on the front page)
- that Clinton aides told them that Clinton will ask Defense
- Secretary Les Aspin to prepare an executive order for his
- signature "sometime in the next few months." In the mean-
- time, the military will be asked to stop asking recruits
- about their sexual orientation, and to drop investigations of
- suspected G/Ls. Aspin will also consult with the military to
- draw up guidelines for sexual behavior by gays and straights
- in the armed forces, and will look into issues like housing,
- establishing G/L social clubs on bases, dependents' benefits,
- etc. The article quoted military leaders, Congressqueers
- Barney Frank and Gerry Stubbs, and former Lambda Legal Defense
- director Thomas Stoddard as being pleased with this new plan.
-
- Although a date was not mentioned, there is widespread
- speculation that the ban will be lifted by May.
