  15. Today's (1/21/93) New York Times reported (on the front page)
  16. that Clinton aides told them that Clinton will ask Defense
  17. Secretary Les Aspin to prepare an executive order for his
  18. signature "sometime in the next few months."  In the mean-
  19. time, the military will be asked to stop asking recruits
  20. about their sexual orientation, and to drop investigations of
  21. suspected G/Ls.  Aspin will also consult with the military to
  22. draw up guidelines for sexual behavior by gays and straights
  23. in the armed forces, and will look into issues like housing,
  24. establishing G/L social clubs on bases, dependents' benefits,
  25. etc.  The article quoted military leaders, Congressqueers
  26. Barney Frank and Gerry Stubbs, and former Lambda Legal Defense
  27. director Thomas Stoddard as being pleased with this new plan.

  30. speculation that the ban will be lifted by May.
