- Tim responds to a comment about cola products with no coloring added as
- a marketing gimmick:
-
- I have thus far refused even to try such a ridiculously obvious
- marketing gimmick.
-
- To which Roger replies:
-
- Marketing gimmick? A cola with one fewer unnecessary ingredient is A-OK in
- my book.
-
- To which Tim reminds us:
-
- Granted, but I'll wager that most people are drinking it merely
- because they have some vague impression that it is less noxious
- because it looks like selzer. Pepsi is marketing it because of the
- surge in popularity of bottled water and Clearly Canadian, and *that*
- is one of my peeves.
-
- According to pre-market focus groups and then mall-intercept surveys after
- the product rolled-out, you are right on target, Tim. Apparently Pepsi
- is enjoying the let's-make-it-a-clear-product-because-people-will-think-
- it's-pure mindset.
-
- Dunno why _you_ would have a pet peeve at the logic of American buying
- habits, though... Some folx are virtually _begging_ for new things to eat,
- drink, and play with... Others wanna stick to the good-ole-stuff-back-ta-
- basics mindset. Now, both things can be done, if ya don't mind having
- LOTS of options to choose from. Personally, I *hate* going to restaurants
- where there are TOO MANY choices on the menu. But I *like* the Crystal
- Pepsi product's taste and freedom from caffiene.
-
- Go figger... :)
