  14. I am posting an announcement that may be of interest to you.  My
  15. name is Dick Banks and I am ad Adaptive Technologist at the
  16. Library Learning Center, University of Wisconsin-Stout.
  17.  
  18. Dr Norman Coombs, chair of Project EASI which is part of EDUCOM
  19. asked me if I would like to moderate a listserv group that would
  20. address the issues of computer access for persons with disabilities.
  21. I am quite excited about this group since I have been working in that
  22. area for the past 6 years.  THe purpose and goals of this group
  23. are set forth in the anouncement.  Please feel free to contact me
  24. to join the list.  Please use the internet address rbanks@uwstout.edu.

  26. Project EASI, Equal Access to Software and Information,  has just
  27. started a new electronic discussion list on disability access to
  28. libraries.  Dick Banks from U. Wisconsin at Stout will be its
  29. moderator.  Anyone wanting to join the list or get further
  30. information about it should contact Dick rbanks@uwstout.edu.

  32.       EASI is starting the list to:
  33.  
  34. 1.  provide a forum to share questions and answers about how to
  35. make
  36.  
  37. 2.  provide a platform from which to reach libraries which are not
  38. yet considering seriously the question of access for users with
  39. disabilities. 
  40.  
  41. 3.  provide a platform from which to lobby vendors of electronic
  42. library services to create tools that are already highly
  43. accessible.
  44.  
  45. 4.  encourage electronic networks and network information services
  46. to make their facilities as accessible as possible to users with
  47. disabilities.  
  48.  
  49. 5.  create and provide EASI services to assist campus libraries and
  50. information providers with resources to assist them in becoming
  51. more disability accessible.  
  52.  
  53.      The print handicapped have the possibility of making ready use
  54. of libraries for the first time.  Mobility impaired persons have
  55. the possibility of making use of libraries without travel.  It is
  56. important that these new electronic services be built from the
  57. ground up with access awareness rather than having to become
  58. modified later.  Please join us in this important task.
