- A brief reference to the battle (ie: in an Encyclopedia) usually has
- figures like 750,000 russian 'loses' and 850,000 lost by Germany and their
- allies.

- Considering the ferocity of the battle and the pure guesswork that is
- often used in historical casualty counts I would not be suprised if the
- real numbers were above a million each.
