  22. A brief reference to the battle (ie: in an Encyclopedia) usually has
  23. figures like 750,000 russian 'loses' and 850,000 lost by Germany and their
  24. allies.

  26. Considering the ferocity of the battle and the pure guesswork that is
  27. often used in historical casualty counts I would not be suprised if the
  28. real numbers were above a million each.
