- From what I know about it is that Steve Chen's SSI is based on the
- old technology of making a computer go faster by making the CPU
- operate under a very low temperature.
-
- This techology is considered to be outdated as now massively
- parallel computing technology is now available which can
- appoach the speed of the old supercomputer technology and is
- projected to be even faster than the old supercomputer technology
- in the near future.
-
- If Taiwan is investing money in Steve Chen's SSI, then I think
- it is probably a bad idea. Parallel computing technology is
- where the smart money should go.
-
- The failure of Steve Chen's and Wang's companies just goes to
- show how efficient the free market is in pruning out non competitive
- corporations based on yesterday's technologies.
-
- The only sad thing I see in this is that it makes me feel like
- that the Chinese mind is great for fine tuning existing ideas
- but still not quite able to create new ideas easily. Since
- both Chen and Wang got their Ph.D.'s from USA, could this lack
- of ability to innovate be some sort of a genetic weakness of
- the Chinese people?
