- I think the problem here is not the fact that the rate is or is not
- artificialy maintained by the government. The fact is that because
- Romanian exports are very weak, there is no hard currency to be bought
- in the country no matter what the exchange rate would be.

- You are allowed as a private citizen to hold and exchange foreign
- currency as long as all transactions with currency are conducted
- with a firm that is legaly authorised to buy and(or) sell foreign
- currency. Many of these firms are private, and offer better exchange
- rates that the state banks.
