  18. I'm collecting information for someone who's about to finish his MBBS in India 
  19. and plans to come here.  I am an engineer and I must admit that my knowledge of 
  20. how medical students come here is very limited.  Could someone please explain to 
  21. me the intricacies of the procedure such an applicant would follow to pursue 
  22. advanced studies in medicine in the USA ?  Some questions that come to my mind:

  24. 1.    Are MBBSs graduates eligible to pursue further studies here or do they 
  25.     have to take up reparatory courses ?

  27. 2.    What exams do they have to take and how would they go about preparing 
  28.     for them ?

  30. 3.    Would they be pursuing an academic curriculum here or would it be a 
  31.     job-type situation (residency etc.) ?

  33. 4.    How long does the whole process take ?

  35. 5.    Is it advisable to start before completing the MBBS or wait to graduate

  38. 6.    What are the visa requirements for medical graduates from India ?  Do they
  39.     come on F-1 visas or are other visas required ?  Are there strict 
  40.     regulations about visas given to medical students from India ?

  42. 7.    What are some good sources of information for a detailed inquiry into

  45. 8.    What can a student do to enhance his chances of getting admitted to a

  50. 10.    How much does medical education in the US cost and how does one go about
  51.     managing the expenses (i.e. sources of financial assistance, etc.) ?
