- The police in Delhi have arrested four sikh terrorists
- who were planning to disrupt the Republic Day parade.
- The militants were reportedly in possession of bombs
- capable of blowing up buildings. They had four of these
- with corresponding remote-controlled devices and planned
- to simultaneously blow up government buildings on the
- Republic Day.
-
- Security has also been tightened in Indian controlled
- Kashmir where Muslim separatists have called for a day
- of protest.

- The British Prime MInisiter Mr.John Major's current visit
- to India is viewed as step to enhance business relations
- with India. The Prime MInister is accompanied by British
- business leaders who consider it important to be a part
- of change in India's economic situation. Prime Minister
- Major thinks that an improvement in British exports to
- India will help in improving his country's current
- economic health. He spent the Sunday at the residence
- of the British High Commissioner in New Delhi preparing
- papers for his meetings with the Indian ministers and
- officials.
-
- It is reported that on this tour Mr. Major will not be asking
- India to sign the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty nor
- will he be pressing for British mediation in Kashmir. The
- British government will only be asking for India's
- co-operation in lowering the tension in the region.
