Lhasa and Dalai's fled to India in 1959.  During the time Dalai even
traveled to India, and returned to Lhasa by himself.

There's not that much mystery around it(rumours also say that he was secretly
married, and his widow is a Han has high level connections with top brass
in Beijing, and was feuding with them after he died over her status.
It's only a rumor, the CCP is quite tide-lip about it, believe or not, it's
your choice).  His death the last thing CCP wanted, and came at a bad time.
Panchen was the only counter weight to Dalai, he worths much more
alive then died, the rest of the old Tibetan nobles simply don't
carry as much weight.  and the CCP agonized how to produce the next panchen,
as a atheist party they really hate to do it, but at the end they decide not to
piss off the believers by appointing or selecting some other high priests
and to start the reincarnation search to find some 3 year old somewhere
on the plateau.  now, why do they kill him first(a well planned & sneaky one
obviously to make it look like a accident in a public ceremony), and then
scratch heads and torning their hair 'cause they lost the No. 1 counterweight
to Dalai, and had no idea how to replace him.  The invaders are not that stupid,
are they?
