  14. Last week I was watching a docu-programm about the London Zoo on the the 
  15. BBC2 television. It was about the problems that the oldest, and maybe also th
  16. biggest zoo in the world has.

  18. One of the major problems was a financail one, the zoo needed about 10 million
  19. pounds 'to pay all the bills' (simply stated). 
  20. Me and my room-mate thought it was a pity that this had to happen too this 
  21. zoo, and we were wondering whether there would not be a very simple solution
  22. to (all ??) this problem:

  24. Why not turn the zoo into a academis-research institute? (the LARZ, stands for
  25. London Academic Reasearch Zoo, makes it easier for me to type :-) )
  26. This LARZ has various advantages. Not only can it stay open for the public,
  27. but also can several disciplines be tought. We were thinking about students in
  28. animal-psychology, veteran students, zoologists, recreations students, etcetra. 
  29. As students pay college money, and sceintist can do research for companies,
  30. payed for offcourse, money gets in. And with this money some of the costs can
  31. be covered.

  33. Besides that the EC or the Brittish Government can (and propably *will*)
  34. subsidize the LARZ, it is (as far as I know) also a unique thing. The zoo was
  35. unique, but as an institute it will become even more.
  36.  
  37. Maybe this already happened in the past, and the zoo is a 'LARZ' already, but
  38. if so I have never heard of, and if so: why is it that it is almost 'bankrupt'
  39. and why is it that such a unique 'business' has to be covered up.
  40.  
  41. I hope I get some response to this, because I really would like to know how
  42. you think about it.
