  12.     I know, I know, this isn't the place for instantaneous
  13. information.  BUT, I have a big problem.  So far my girlfriend
  14. has hung up on me.  TWICE.  The first time she called, the 
  15. second time I called back and she then hung up on me after only
  16. saying five words.

  18.     What is the source of all of this discourse between us?

  20.     She is involved in a certain co-ed fraternity on campus.
  21.  
  22.     I did NOT want her to join, as all of my previous 
  23. experiences with ANY greek organization have been bad ones.  I
  24. myself told her what I thought when she asked me.  I told her I
  25. thought she was too good for them.
  26.  
  27.     Since she joined, she went to this party (A non-fraternity
  28. party, because of some weird by-laws) nevertheless, put on by 
  29. somebody in the fraternity and lots of people in the fraternity 
  30. were there.  I was NOT.  This was my mistake, I guess.

  32.     Anyhow, to make a long story short, things happened that
  33. evening.  Things that she DOESN'T EVEN REMEMBER.

  35.     She talked with her "brothers" about that night and she
  36. accepted whatever they said as gospel.
  37.  
  38.     When I got to the hospital emergency room, it struck me 
  39. that no-one else from her fraternity was there.  Guess they were
  40. all drunk.  Somebody had been playing, let's see how ugly we can
  41. make her hair look with her, as there were barretts and rubber
  42. bands in her hair.  
  43.  
  44.     I talked to the nurse there, and from what I could piece 
  45. together, the police found her passed out in the snow with a very
  46. faint heart beat and called an ambulance.
  47.  
  48.     Oh yeah, did I mention her BAC was .23 after they had 
  49. started pumping her stomach and replacing her blood with plasma?
  50.  
  51.     Suffice it to say, I really don't have a high opinion
  52. of her fraternity especially after she had talked with them about
  53. what the hell happened that night while I was there.  They were 
  54. obviously lying through their teeth.
  55.  
  56.     So, she wants her friend to be in the same fraternity. 
  57. Now she says that her friend told her that I said I didn't want
  58. her to join.  I hardly talk to this person.
  59.  
  60.     Today at dinner, she was with another one of her "brothers"
  61. named Audrey and were talking to her friend and a friend of hers
  62. about pledging the fratenrity.  I was there too, but that's all 
  63. they talked about.  I could have said the most off the wall thing
  64. and nobody at the table would have noticed.
  65.  
  66.     So they have their big organizational meeting their tonight.
  67. My girlfriend gets out of the meeting, is mad at me for not going 
  68. with her (even though she would understand that I DIDN'T pledge.
  69. This is after I have already been to one of those meetings and told
  70. her NEVER AGAIN would I go to another meeting with her.

  72.     She gets off this meeting, and then tells me that "surprise"
  73. the fraternity is going as a group to Florida over our Spring break.
  74. You could pretty well imagine what my reaction was.  I didn't yell
  75. at her or anything but she knew I was upset.  Finally, I told her
  76. that the reason why is if for some bizarre reason I couldn't go, I
  77. would be afraid that she would and that something would happen to 
  78. her, and I would not be there for her.  You can already tell that
  79. my opiinion of any of her fraternity "brothers" effectiveness in
  80. any situation like this is extremely low.

  82.     I spent the night there, with her at the hospital.  Nobody
  83. else showed up.  The phone rang maybe two or three times the entire
  84. time I was there.  (Allegedly the fraternity brothers called every
  85. hour on the hour.)

  89.     Now we come to my point, which is twofold.

  91.     1.)How do you handle your SO being involved in other things?
  92.  
  93.     2.)Is there a newsgroup about alcoholism?  NOT alt.support,
  94.        as this is one she frequents.

  96. P.S.  The trip to Florida costs $99 a person, with two people in each
  97. room.  Food would have to be bought.  She has bills with the hospital,
  98. with the county clerk (we were in court today,) and if she doesn't
  99. pay these bills, she gets to spend two months in the county jail.

  102. reading this, know that I love you and know that I have already
  103. told you how I felt about that night.  Maybe now that you see it in
  104. writing, you know why I am not so excited about your fraternity.
