- HELP!
-
- I know, I know, this isn't the place for instantaneous
- information. BUT, I have a big problem. So far my girlfriend
- has hung up on me. TWICE. The first time she called, the
- second time I called back and she then hung up on me after only
- saying five words.
-
- What is the source of all of this discourse between us?
-
- She is involved in a certain co-ed fraternity on campus.
-
- I did NOT want her to join, as all of my previous
- experiences with ANY greek organization have been bad ones. I
- myself told her what I thought when she asked me. I told her I
- thought she was too good for them.
-
- Since she joined, she went to this party (A non-fraternity
- party, because of some weird by-laws) nevertheless, put on by
- somebody in the fraternity and lots of people in the fraternity
- were there. I was NOT. This was my mistake, I guess.
-
- Anyhow, to make a long story short, things happened that
- evening. Things that she DOESN'T EVEN REMEMBER.
-
- She talked with her "brothers" about that night and she
- accepted whatever they said as gospel.
-
- When I got to the hospital emergency room, it struck me
- that no-one else from her fraternity was there. Guess they were
- all drunk. Somebody had been playing, let's see how ugly we can
- make her hair look with her, as there were barretts and rubber
- bands in her hair.
-
- I talked to the nurse there, and from what I could piece
- together, the police found her passed out in the snow with a very
- faint heart beat and called an ambulance.
-
- Oh yeah, did I mention her BAC was .23 after they had
- started pumping her stomach and replacing her blood with plasma?
-
- Suffice it to say, I really don't have a high opinion
- of her fraternity especially after she had talked with them about
- what the hell happened that night while I was there. They were
- obviously lying through their teeth.
-
- So, she wants her friend to be in the same fraternity.
- Now she says that her friend told her that I said I didn't want
- her to join. I hardly talk to this person.
-
- Today at dinner, she was with another one of her "brothers"
- named Audrey and were talking to her friend and a friend of hers
- about pledging the fratenrity. I was there too, but that's all
- they talked about. I could have said the most off the wall thing
- and nobody at the table would have noticed.
-
- So they have their big organizational meeting their tonight.
- My girlfriend gets out of the meeting, is mad at me for not going
- with her (even though she would understand that I DIDN'T pledge.
- This is after I have already been to one of those meetings and told
- her NEVER AGAIN would I go to another meeting with her.
-
- She gets off this meeting, and then tells me that "surprise"
- the fraternity is going as a group to Florida over our Spring break.
- You could pretty well imagine what my reaction was. I didn't yell
- at her or anything but she knew I was upset. Finally, I told her
- that the reason why is if for some bizarre reason I couldn't go, I
- would be afraid that she would and that something would happen to
- her, and I would not be there for her. You can already tell that
- my opiinion of any of her fraternity "brothers" effectiveness in
- any situation like this is extremely low.
-
- I spent the night there, with her at the hospital. Nobody
- else showed up. The phone rang maybe two or three times the entire
- time I was there. (Allegedly the fraternity brothers called every
- hour on the hour.)
-
- I thnak you if you've followed this posting for this long.
-
- Now we come to my point, which is twofold.
-
- 1.)How do you handle your SO being involved in other things?
-
- 2.)Is there a newsgroup about alcoholism? NOT alt.support,
- as this is one she frequents.
-
- P.S. The trip to Florida costs $99 a person, with two people in each
- room. Food would have to be bought. She has bills with the hospital,
- with the county clerk (we were in court today,) and if she doesn't
- pay these bills, she gets to spend two months in the county jail.
-
- Thanx for any help you can give me. Blanche, if you are
- reading this, know that I love you and know that I have already
- told you how I felt about that night. Maybe now that you see it in
- writing, you know why I am not so excited about your fraternity.
