  23. VINCENT NAMED ACTING PUBLIC AFFAIRS HEAD

  25.     NASA Administrator Daniel S. Goldin today announced the
  26. appointment, effective immediately, of Geoffrey H. Vincent as Acting
  27. Associate Administrator for Public Affairs.
  28.  
  29.     On Jan. 21, the White House accepted the resignations of William A.
  30. Livingstone and Sue Mathis Richard, the Associate Administrator and Deputy
  31. Associate Administrator for Public Affairs, respectively.  Both were non-
  32. career executives who served at the pleasure of the President.  Their last
  33. day at NASA was Jan. 22.

  35.      "Bill and Sue have provided outstanding service to NASA and to me
  36. personally," Goldin told a meeting of the Headquarters Public Affairs staff on
  37. Jan. 22.  "I extend to them my sincerest gratitude for their dedication and
  38. enthusiasm."  Livingstone came to NASA in May 1992; Richard in April
  39. 1990.

  41.      Vincent currently is Director of the Program Management Division in the
  42. Office of Public Affairs, where he oversees resources, administrative
  43. services, Freedom of Information requests and coordinates issues among
  44. various parts of the Public Affairs organization.  He joined NASA in December
  45. 1987 and served as a Public Affairs Officer and Special Assistant to the
  46. Associate Administrator for Public Affairs before assuming his current
  47. position.

  49.      Prior to coming to NASA, Vincent served for 4 years as a public affairs
  50. officer for the Department of the Navy.  He also spent 5 years reporting on
  51. legislative, regulatory and political issues for various Washington-based
  52. newsletters.  He received a B.A. degree from George Washington University
  53. and a M.A. degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.
