  14. As Dieter has pointed out on several occasions, I'm a historian of
  15. science who prefers to lurk rather than interact on this bboard.
  16. Has to do with theoretical issues in historical and sociological
  17. analysis--the "Hawthorne effect," which is sort of like the uncertainty
  18. principle: if the people you're studying are self-conscious about
  19. you studying them, then they change behavior.
