- limits of land-based airpower? BTW, do you know of the story that, in the
- political negotiations that lead effectively to the demise of the Fleet Air
- Arm, the RAF contrived to 'move' an island 2000 miles (was it Ascension?) to
- make their case??

- Isn't this the nub of the matter? The Navy feel that the Air Force were
- dishonest in their undertakings to the government of the day as to what cover
- they could effectively give, if made responsible for the air defence of the
- Fleet. IMO, the Navy have the right of it.
