  20. The Casablanca conference ends.  Roosevelt and Churchill announce that the
  21. Allied offensive strategy for 1943 has been set, with the goal of the
  22. unconditional surrender of the Axis nations.  Secret plans have been made
  23. for the completion of the North African campaign and Operation Husky,
  24. an invasion of Sicily scheduled for June or July.  Also planned are the
  25. reconquest of the Philippines and offensives in China and Burma.

  27. Field-Marshal von Manstein requests that Hitler order General Paulus to
  28. surrender his surrounded 6th Army, arguing that its continued suffering is
  29. of no value to the Germans.  Hitler refuses.
