- re: Dubbing
-
- Short post from me.. thanks to those who eMAILed me about my TV5 request
- I'll get back to u soon..
- About the German dubbing.. some thoughts.
-
- In a way its understandable, German is after all the most spoken 'native'
- language in Western Europe. English being the most spoken period. But
- anyway, the majority of Germans want services in 'their' language
- just as the Americans do, difference is that many Germans can make
- their way thru a second (or 3rd) language. I find it great that the
- ARD/ZDF show two-language version movies (and series: Golden Girls).
- Its something I wish Mother Broadcasting (CBC/SRC) would do here
- but they are still mono with no signs of changing (soon..).
-
- We have a very similar situation in Quebec where (at least the SRC)
- dubbs everything except 'FRENCH' movies into Quebecois. If the movie
- was American and a euro-French soundtrack is available, they will
- broadcast the 'Quebec-French' version!! here its a case of linguistic
- smuggness and pride in their dialect. So , the point is, dubbing
- takes place elsewhere than in Germany. It makes economic sense to
- do it in Germany, not here, but here it is Politically correct!
-
-
- Its too bad that English speaking North Americans detest Dubbed
- and subtitled movies on TV. Some exceptions come to mind but very very
- few. the ZDF series 'BLACK FOREST HOSPITAL' and the SRC series 'EMILE'.
- Occassionally CBC will air subtitled films in their midnight cinema
- but they are the only ones. A rarity. Its too bad because some good
- movies come out of places like the former CSFR and other points east of
- Berlin!
