- Well, as always, new programs on ASTRA are kept as a top secret by
- the SES in Luxembourg. So everything can be speculation only. But
- certainly in many cases you can 1 and 1 together and get certain
- results which nobody can ignore.
-
- One fact will be, that most new 1C channels will be encrypted.
- Like the Disney Channel, Bravo or Thames, Children's or Games,
- Discovery or Arts Channel, TV Asia, Cala Plus Espana, Canal
- Sports Espana, probably 3 or 4 French TF1 channels (2 movies,
- 1 Sport, one Children). In the clear might be VIVA (forgot what
- it is or will be) and german VOX, and most probably beginning
- in 1994 the main german national channels ARD and ZDF, definately
- in the clear.
-
- The satellite will be launched in May 1993 and should be
- operational in July. It will have 16 channels between 10.950 GHz
- and 11.200 GHz, and two BELOW 10.950, which will not carry
- regular programming. Their transponder number 63 and 64 indicate
- that they are part of the future Astra 1D system, which will use
- frequencies between 10.700 and 10.950 GHz, which receivers are not
- capable of yet usually.
