GBP 170 sounds about right for an S-Video to RGB Convertor which is
what you need if your TV does not have an S-Video socket. (A small,
round 4 pin socket located somewhere on the back panel).
I think convertors start at something like GBP 90. Made by Sony

You could use a SCART (or whatever) to SCART lead, which is better
than RF, but not as good as S-video. Prices start from GBP 10.
If you want an S-video to S-video lead, try somehere like Tandy, or
any good independent video dealer. Also Dixons / Currys have a
mail order service for accessories like this, I believe you ask for
