  23. I've got a 696 and know exactly which holes you are talking about.  
  24. I have not seen anything in the manual which may in any way suggest that
  25. the holes were placed for a connection of any sort.

  27. I guess the best thing to do is to open the remote and see what's behind
  28. the holes.

  30. I'd do it but my VCR is in the shop now.  I've got these really annoying 
  31. popping sounds when I play pre-recorded tapes.  BTW, does your unit make
  32. these popping sounds too?  If so, let me know.

  34. I'm compiling a list of people who own Sony 595 or 696 VCRs who have
  35. the same annoying popping problem with the HiFi audio.  So, far I have
  36. 9 people on my list.
