- I've got a 696 and know exactly which holes you are talking about.
- I have not seen anything in the manual which may in any way suggest that
- the holes were placed for a connection of any sort.

- I guess the best thing to do is to open the remote and see what's behind
- the holes.

- I'd do it but my VCR is in the shop now. I've got these really annoying
- popping sounds when I play pre-recorded tapes. BTW, does your unit make
- these popping sounds too? If so, let me know.

- I'm compiling a list of people who own Sony 595 or 696 VCRs who have
- the same annoying popping problem with the HiFi audio. So, far I have
- 9 people on my list.
