- PALPlus is widescreen version of PAL. It was created initially so that
- terrestial broadcasters could transmit widescreen broadcasts, because the D2MAC
- bandwidth is too large to be used terrestially.
-
- PalPlus is compatible with existing PAL television sets and the newer 16:9
-
- If a 4:3 set receives a PalPlus signal it will display it in letterbox The new
- 16:9 sets will display the full widescreen image. It uses digital signals which
- are embedded in the black bars to improve the picture quality.
-
- Unfortunately present video recorders cant handle the high frequency digital
- helper signals. I think they are working on a modified SVHS system.
-
- it is hoped that PALplus broadcasts can begin in the Autumn of '95.
