- Catch up on the other articles in related threads (search for threads with
- "2000" in the subject). When I wrote the above, I thought we had
- irrefutable proof that analog sources went through A/D and D/A. I
- suggested a test in which the analog input level would be turned all the
- way up until it overloads the A/D converters in normal mode, followed by a
- check to see if the A/D converters were overloaded in source-direct mode
- (not by checking the OVER light, but by actually listening for digital
- clipping). Someone did the test and said they heard obvious digital
- clipping. As it turns out, they might have mistaken analog distortion for
- digital clipping, because I was not able to produce digital clipping on my
- machine with source-direct on.
-
- I wasn't aware that the manual stated specifically that the converters
- were bypassed, other than the block diagram (which I wasn't certain I was
- interpreting correctly and which could be inaccurate anyway). What page
- is it on? Regardless, I think the latest evidence, which is presented in
- another thread, answers the question once and for all. The converters
- *are* bypassed.
