- :
- : 1a. Am I correct that it was likely shot in the wrong format?
- Yes or a badly aligned 8mm camcorder.
-
- : 1b. If so, any ideas how to tell what format it was shot in?
- :
- Probably PAL. I've never seen a SECAM 8mm system, but I guess
- they exist in France.
- : 2. If the answer to 1a is yes, what is the prognosis. Can the
- : scenes be transfered to NTSC or is my brother out of luck? If
- : they can be transfered, any idea how to do it. Are there services
- : that would make the transfer? They would be willing to pay a
- : "reasonable" amount to make the conversion, whatever that means.
- :
- My wife runs such a service. She transfers video to/from
- PAL to NTSC or SECAM. The current cost is $25 for 2 hours, $15 for 1 hour.
- This includes transfer, tape and return shipping and handling in a
- 24 hour timeframe. Tax is extra for CA residents. So if the tape is
- in 8mm PAL she can transfer it to either 8mm NTSC or VHS NTSC for you.
- If you can here sound and it's a bit speeded up, the chances are it is a
- PAL tape.
-
- If you would like to send the tape for us to look at the
- address is:

- 1911 Douglas Boulevard #85
- Roseville
- CA 95661
-
- (916) 773 - 3705.
-
- If it is in PAL we can transfer it. Other sources are ads in
- Videomaker magazine. Not all offer 8mm work so make sure you check.
-
- Hope this helps,
