- There are a couple of options:
-
- 1) Buy a machine that can playback PAL on NTSC TVs. These machines
- are available from Sharp, AIWA, and PANASONIC. They range in price from
- $400 (AIWA) uto $2000 for PANASONIC AG-W1. You can shop around for discounts.
-
- 2) Have the tapes converted to NTSC. Aprroximately $25 for 2 hour
- tapes, plus appropriate taxes.
-
- As to which option to recommend depends upon your friend's money supply
- and the number of tapes they wish to watch. If they will be watching many
- tapes buying a machine might be the way to go. Some of the machines have
- tuners in them and can act as regular VCRs. The AG-W1 does not. It is a
- prosumer system convert. If your friend has only a couple of tapes
- they might want to consider having them converted. There are several companies
- who advertise in video magazines (eg Videomaker) that offer this service.
- My wife runs such a business. She can be reched at:
-
-
- RVT
- 1911 Douglas Boulevard #85
- Roseville
- CA 95661.
- (916) 773-3705
-
- She offers a two hour conversion for $25. This includes the conversion,
- Tape, and return mail all within 24 hours. You have to add CA tax if
- you live in CA.
