  20. I think it's a bit too much.  I spent 16 days in Italy over the
  21. Christmas-New Year's holidays, and only visited Venice (7 days),
  22. Firenze (5 days), Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, and Milan (1 day each).
  23. I could have maybe done with only 3 or 4 days in Venice,
  24. but I was fascinated by the place and stayed longer.

  26. I didn't find Milan the least bit interesting or charming, and I would
  27. plan on leaving it as soon as possible. (Well, the Duomo is worth
  28. a brief look, and if you're into opera you might try getting
  29. a ticket to La Scala, but that's said to be quite difficult.)

  34. That's hard to answer, because I don't know what you consider
  35. "frightfully expensive".  The Uffizi costs 10,000 lira, which is
  36. about $6-$7 depending on the exchange rate.  The (Florence) Accademia costs
  37. the same price--which is a lot for a museum whose primary purpose is
  38. to hold a single statue.  (On the other hand, that statue is
  39. Michelangelo's "David", so I certainly found it worth the price
  40. of admission.)     Most other museums cost less--anywhere from
  41. 5000 to 8000 lire.

  45. Cheaper one-star hotels and less expensive restaurants often won't
  46. take credit cards;  you should bring some traveler's cheques and not
  47. plan to depend totally on plastic.
