  15. I'm going to Europe in 6 weeks and have called all the car rental
  16. agents listed in "Let's Go" to compare rates. I'd like advise on
  17. companies, renting and driving in Germany.

  19. I decided to rent a car because there are 3 of us going and we're
  20. going to Frankfurt, then Heidelberg, then Munich. Round trip on
  21. the train seems to be about DM 200 (say, $125) for each of us, but a
  22. car is DM 193 a week, unlimited mileage plus 15% minus a 10% discount
  23. for being in AAA, plus gas (say, 1000 km total for the week, 50 kpg
  24. = 20 gallons * $4/gallon = $80). So, instead of $125 * 3 = $375 for
  25. train, it's $120 + $18.75 + $80 = $218.75 TOTAL. If my logic is
  26. faulty or it's really $8 gallon for gas in Germany somebody tell me,
  27. because I WANT not to have to drive, but we can see more in the 10 
  28. days we'll be there, we can take side trips on the way, and its
  29. cheaper.

  31. So, what I want to know is, am I crazy or is it really cheaper to
  32. drive if there is 3 of us (all over 27, so no discounted Eurail and
  33. the like)? And, I'm not afraid of the driving, but how's the parking?
  34. Can we find a place to park in Frankfurt, Heidelberg and Munich, or is
  35. it 2 million dollars to park 8-) ? And, how much IS gas? I assumed
  36. about $4 per gallon.

  38. I basically planned on driving the car only between cities, and use 
  39. public transport or walk within our destinations.

  41. Finally, am I getting a good deal with DM 193/week unlimited mileage???
