- You
- rousts strong opinions - my own included.
-
- Best bet is to get a copy of the latest Zagat Guide. I
- comparing it to my own experiences that it pretty accurate.
-
- General Wisdom:
- You
- probably fine (I went once 15 years ago and enjoyed it on someone else
- plastic), but there are wonderful restaurants elsewhere in town.
-
- Personal Favorites:
- My Thai - 22nd & Lombard. Out of the way Thai restaurant which has
- consistently served us excellent food over the last few years at
- reasonable prices. ($26 for two last weekend w/o booze).
-
- Allouette - 334 Bainbridge. Our favorite for anniversarys. Non-stuffy
- traditional service. Nicest in summer when you can sit outside in their
- courtyard. French-Thai flavor.
-
- Friday-Saturday - 21st near Locust. A long-time fixture around the corner
- from where I live. Draped cloth makes a tent-like atmosphere with
- consistently good continental food - again Thai influenced.
-
- Charlie
- lunch. You will be cramped if you find a seat, but even the waiting is
- enjoyable.
-
- *****
- How to get places in Philadelphia.
- You probably will cringe at our cabs - expensive and run down ($16 to
- Center city + tip)
- Limos to various places seem calculated to be about 3/4 of the cab price
- for a single person.
- Call SEPTA, the train and bus authority for train information. 215
- 580-7800 last time I called them
- Most out of town visitors who are not going to stay downtown (in which
- case take the half-hourly train to Center City ($4.50?), then a cab or
- bus if you
