Sounds like you ended up in the "new" agora (market), "new" to distinguish it
from the ancient agora. It's one of my favorite places in Athens for
interesting sights, sounds, and smells. The huge meat and fish market is
pretty incredible.
Nearby there's a great little pork chop restaurant, where two bald brothers
crank out hundreds of delicious pork chops daily. While frantically preparing
and grilling chops, they prove they're still paying attention by ringing a
string of cowbells whenever a beautiful woman walks by!
