- I don't have any real inside info, but there are a couple of things in
- the Asheville area you're sure to hear about: the Blue Ridge Parkway and
- the Biltmore Estate. Make sure you take a drive on the Parkway. You can
- get a Parkway map that'll show you various points of interest where you
- can hike, etc. The Biltmore Estate is the home of (or one of many homes
- of) George Vanderbilt the railroad tycoon, and it is spectacular. It
- features a mansion, gardens, and a winery. It's worth seeing, but it costs
- quite a bit -- maybe $20 per person.
-
- Since you're going to Asheville for a crafts conference I'm sure you'll
- be aware of the crafts center (I forget its exact name) on the Parkway
- near Asheville. Folks from there will probably be at the conference.
- It's definitely worth seeing.
-
- A place not too far from Asheville that I've enjoyed visiting is Chimney
- Rock. That's where the recent movie "The Last of the Mohicans" was filmed.
- Like the Biltmore Estate, it is privately owned and the admission is not
- cheap -- maybe $10 for this place.
-
- But there are plenty of great places to visit for free in the area, like
- Pisgah National Forest and others.
