- I find the use of a "sound conditioner" helps a lot. This
- is a device that generates a fairly white background sound
- to mask unwanted noise (and in a new setting even very minor
- noises are unfamiliar & unsettling). The ideal situation is
- to use the same machine at home and on the road, so that
- the aural environment as you fall asleep is familiar.
-
- There is at least one machine on the market that is suitable
- for travel (about 5 inches high by 8 inches in diameter, weighing
- about 2 pounds, and it comes with a leather travelling case).
- I have ordered two of these (for about $25 each as I recall)
- from a mail order company in NYC called "The Deeper Sleeper",
- and have been very satisfied. If there is interest I
- can locate the address for this company. I would guess that
- some large department stores might carry this sort of machine
- as well.
