- I agree. I've written as much on a few occasions and haven't received
- any comments...The only really good Milan game I've seen on TV this
- year was Fiorentina-Milan 3-7 and that was more due to Fiorentina's
- suicidal tactics. I was less than impressed in their 5-3 victory
- at home over Lazio, their 0-0 tie with Torino was a poor performance,
- their 0-1 victory against Juventus should have been 1-1 had Vialli
- not failed the pk, in their 1-1 tie with Inter, Inter dominated the
- first half...What I read in Il Guerin Sportivo and the occasional
- Gazzetta dello Sport also doesn't impress me... In their last 7 league
- games they have scored only 1 goal (5 times) or 2 (twice)...and as
- Mischa points out they no longer take the game to the opposition for
- the entire match - do you remember most of their Euro Cup games
- in 88-89?? they literally would outshoot the opposition 20-2...
-
- I believe that if the current Milan team played the 1989 version, they
- (the current guys) would lose handily. When I see Gullit, Baresi, Tassotti
- and Donadoni these days, they are but shadows of what they were...
- Ancelotti is gone and
- Lentini, Papin, and Albertini have not picked up the slack...
- The goaltending is easily the worst in the Serie A - my conclusion
- is that if this team played the 1989 team 10 times we would probably
- have a 4 W 4 T 2 L advantage for the 1989 guys. I interpret their
- current win streak as due to the weakness of the Italian teams this
- year...When we talk about the 'great' Milan team, please let's talk
- about the 1989-90 team (even if it didn't win the Italian league...)
- That team showed some awesome soccer...The current guys are more cynical
- and play more for the result than for the spectacle...
-
- How do the other netters feel about this??
