- In a word, no.
-
- Although Blue played well is his last two outings, (Pittsburg,Islanders) I
- don't believe his style will allow him to become a top notch goalie. He flops
- around like Reggie did whenever the puck gets near him. This will work against
- teams with poor shooters and the defence clearing the rebounds. The Bruins
- have played tighter defence when Blue has been in the nets because they know
- that he will be down and out after stopping the first shot.
-
- His first game, a loss to Quebec (without Sakic,Sundin & Ricci) he only got to
- handle 20 shots. The second, he was pulled midway through after allowing a goal
- from the blueline. His first win came against Buffalo who were shut down
- completely by inspired defense. He looked pretty good against Pitt, but you
- could argue that Pitt wasn't there mentally - it was the first game after Mario's
- announcement. His last assignment against the Islanders, I would say he was more
- lucky than good. Several times the Islanders were in close and had Blue dead to
- rights, but shot wide, right into Blue,or over the net. Twice shots that had him
- beat, hit his mask and deflected away. He did make some solid saves but let in
- the tying goal that he should have stopped (50 footer through the legs).
-
- Once teams face him the second time, I think Blue will be in trouble. Of course
- I could be wrong, and nobody would be more happier if the B's find some
- consistancy in goal. But I believe the B's will live or die in the playoffs
- with Moog. Unfortunatly Moog seems to be taking on some of Blue's traits; such
- as when the puck is near the net, go down holding stick across the ice, leaving
- the top of the net open, ARGH!!!.
-
- On the positive, this may push Moog to improve his play. Barring a miracle
- (or a trade for Tugnutt), Andy will be the man.
