  20. Yes, but he followed one of the all time great captains also.  Soon after Viv
  21. became Captain he lost the services of Garner, Holding and Larry Gomes, (+
  22. Lloyd's absence) so he did have to fashio his own team to an extent.

  28. There are two counter arguments about Viv.  One is that he was a moody arrogant
  29. SOB who allowed the WI team to go into decline by lack of leadership.  The
  30. other is that he was a captain who maintained pride in a winning team, and was
  31. successful in maintaining the WIs #1 postion.  I think it's a bit of both.

  33. Unlike Lloyd, Brearley and Imran, Viv saw no need to dispense diplomacy,
  34. especially in his various contretemps with the press and variuos officials.  He
  35. therefore suffered in his PR, much of it self-inflicted.  THis does not appear
  36. inspirational I will admit.

  38. At the end of the day you can only judge him on his record, 12-7-5-0.
