- Just heard on BBC SPorts round up that Wasim Akram (26) has been appointed
- to captain Pakistan on its tours to South Africa and West Indies. Waqar
- Younis (21) will be the vice-captain.
-
- The appointment of Akram as skipper is a move that was anticipated/hoped for
- in some quarters on rsc, so doesn't surprise me, but that of Waqar as vice-
- captain does. I'm not very familiar with Pakistan cricket, but he seems a
- little young, and if Akram is injured will suddenly have a big responsibility
- on his shoulders, in addition to being the main weapon. Was there no one else
- (Malik,Rameez,Shoaib?), or is he either beyond his years (Yes, I know
- he has 102 Test wickets) ?
-
- BTW, BBC quoted a Pakistan Board spokesman who said that this appointment was
- consistent with their policy of having a captain who would be around for a
- longish while - that policy didn't seem to affect Imran, somehow.
