- Here's a rumour about that innings by Vishy - I have no way of determining its
- veracity. But it makes a good story all right.
- Vishy, as you know always had a soft corner for the bottle. Apparently, the
- evening before that Test, Vishy got drunk silly. The team manager, perhaps
- Umrigar, got totally pissed off at him. Luckily Gavaskar and Venkat took him
- away and locked him inside his room before further trouble could occur. The
- next morning it was 0/2 (?) and everybody was wondering whether Vishy would
- actually come out. After ages (it seemed) Vishy walked out with bloodshot eyes
- - did'nt say a word to anybody - and proceeded to play perhaps the best innings
- ever played on Indian soil.
- As I told you, it's a good story. It was told to me by someone who was a
- relative of Venkat.
