  13. Justin Langer, 22 year old left hander from WA will replace the injured
  14. Damien Martyn in the Fourth Test against the WI beginning tomorrow
  15. (Saturday). Martyn was struck by Bob Simpson's thumb in a fielding mishap
  16. and is in hospital where he will remain for 4 days. Apparently, there was
  17. some bleeding in the eye and further observation is a routine precaution.
  18. He is expected to fully recover. There is no news on the condition of Bob
  19. Simpson's thumb.

  21. The selection of Langer is a major setback for Dean Jones, who probably 
  22. would have considered himself the obvious replacement, perhaps rightly so. 
  23. However, it is also possible that Jones' fractured thumb, an injury *not*
  24. sustained from an insertion into Martyn's eye, may have ruled him out.
  25. Of course, it is also a setback for Martyn and Australia. Injury has ruled
  26. out three Australian players: Bruce Reid, Michael Whitney and Damien
  27. Martyn. David Boon has also been under doubt with a hamstring injury, but
  28. will definitely play.

  30. As far as I know, there are no reported injuries in the WI team. The likely
  31. team line-ups in batting order, IMHO, are now:

  33. Aus: Taylor, Boon, Langer, M.Waugh, S.Waugh, Border, Healy, Dodemaide,
  34. Warne, Hughes, McDermott, May (12th).

  36. WI: Haynes, Richardson, Lara, Arthurton, Logie, Adams, Murray, Bishop,
  37. Ambrose, Walsh, Patterson, Hooper (12th).

  39. I would rate the West Indies as marginal favourites.
