- Strategies to avoid injury/permanent damage:
-
- ski in control. be aware of those around you including those behind you,
- in front of you, taking a pee in the trees, having an impromptu lunch
- with their friends...
- above you, to your side, stopped in the middle of the trail just over the
- rise ;), buried in the snow up to their necks, lying in between bumps, and
- directly over your head!
-
- Also watch out for "signs" of such people...like for example, poles
- hanging off tree limbs, poles sticking up out of the middle of groomed trails,
- 10 ft. hats, fogged goggles decorating the bumps, walkmen, video cameras,
- skis (white) sitting on their bases on the snow across the fall line in
- such a way that they obstruct a good 12 feet of trail at the most
- constricted point
- of the run..etc..etc.
-
- do not ski above your ability or when too tired. be prepared for changing
- conditions - like beautiful fluffy snow turning into hardpack or ice as you
- hit top speed where trails merge.
-
- be cautious when skiing a challenging run for the first time and ski with
- a friend you trust to give you lots of room and be helpful if you get hurt.
-
- ski as far away from other people as you possibly can in space and time.
-
- of course you could also get one of those neat racing helmets...
