- After some amount of fussing with various answers to the glasses / goggles
- fogging mess, I broke down and bought a pair of Uvex's goggles with the
- built in fan. Pretty complete solution, if a touch drastic, from the
- expense side, but I figure I ski enough that I'd rather spend time skiing
- than mucking about with fogged glasses or goggles. "Cat Crap" yes, it's
- called that helps, as a similar waxy goo called "c-clear" which REI carries.
-
- The Uvex fan goggles are a lot less obtrussive than the Scott's with the
- external power pack on the strap (Which I found pinched and bounced against
- my head) and have the advantage of running on plain AAA batteries. The
- battery hatch design is capable of being opened with gloves on, or with
- practice with mittens. I've found that one needs to cycle batteres from
- goggles to warm interior pocket only on seriously cold days (5F and below,
- I'd say, certainly not until you hit single digits. In general, I can run
- the fan for a short while to dry out the whole system and flip it back off.
- Only in heavy wet snow while working up a major sweat have I normally
- had them on for more than about 2 minutes.
-
- My pair's over four years old and going strong.
-
- I've no financial relationship with Uvex other than as a satsified
- customer.
