- : Greetings all,
- :
- : I recently blew out my ACL and went to see a well recomended Orthopedist.
- : He informed me that that particular ligament can heal itself, and
- : barring cartlige damage shouldn't require surgery.
- :
- : I just wanted to get the net.opinion on this statement. Has anyone
- : else done this and successfully recovered without surgery?
- :
- : I'd appreciate any info that can be provided.
- :
- : Thanks, (in pain)

- Bummer. However, if you've found a doctor who thinks he can rehabilitate
- your knee without "cutting", do whatever he says and give it a chance. I've
- had knee surgery three times, the last one being a total ACL reconstruction.
- I don't know many who have gone under the knife only once (especially those
- of us who won't give up our favorite sport - no, I'm not talking about sex),
- so it kinda seems like once a knee patient, always a knee patient. Stick
- to your therapy! It can do amazin' things...and you very well might be
- able to get your other muscles strong enough to hold it all together (work on
- those hams!)
-
- Good luck - from my point of view you don't have much to lose by trying the
- "no surgery" approach first.
