- OK, as the "original poster" of this topic, I would like to clarify some things:
- 1) I don't think I said, nor implied, that helmets should be a REQUIREMENT.
- What I asked (if my memory serves me right) was what people really thought
- about it. 2) I don't think that forcing people to be certified before they're
- allowed to ski the whole mountain will be feasible. Besides, I don't think
- it would solve the problem. If I can use an analogy, everyone
- is forced to get a driver's license. But we've all seen many, many, many
- people who *should* not be able to drive. Thus, I don't really think that
- certification will work. *UNLESS* we make all skiers realize that they
- can never be Alberto Tomba, and thus should be conscientous of their own
- ability? One of the main reasons I brought this whole thing up was because
- I was hit by another skier, and suffered (luckily or unluckily, depending on
- how you look at it) a minor concussion and had to spend the night in the
- hospital. Wasn't very fun for me, believe me. Just because I try to be a
- conscientous skier doesn't mean other people are. I know I'm not the best
- skier in the world, and I never claimed to be. But I have enough sense at
- what I can do and what I can't. Still, I got hit. Pardon me if I sound a
- little upset, but it's because I am. Some dork had to ruin a perfectly good
- vacation for me. I know this has nothing to do with helmets, but still.
- I very much doubt I'd wear a helmet myself, despite this. I do realize that
- skiing is a relatively safe sport, if you don't do stupid things. After all,
- all you fall on is snow (except back here in the east, where we have ice).
- But maybe the mountains should take some more responsibility in their
- skier's safety? Don't sell as many tickets. How many times have you been
- minding your own business when you get stuck in a multi-skier accident, or
- just miss one? It happens a lot when the slopes get ultra-crowded.
- What about being more forceful, getting the really reckless and dangerous
- skiers off? It's one thing to do tricks and jumps and ski fast. It's totally
- another thing to endanger other people.
-
- There, my 2 cents worth. I know, my thoughts are jumbled, but hey, it's been
- a long day.
