  10. It might be pointed out that the range of AVERAGE daily temperature in the
  11. american plains is on the order of 100 degrees F (~55 degrees C).  The total
  12. range is worse.  It's possible that some differences in practice are due to
  13. the Europeans not having to deal with such extremes-- certainly in the UK
  14. they don't have to.
