- Just in time for the tropical dxing season are two fine receiver offered
- for sale. Both are in like new condition and include owner's manual etc.
-
- 1) Kenwood R5000. Really nice general coverage receiver tunes 30khz - 30mhz
- better audio than the Icom R70/R71A, NRD525/535D (I know as I own each),
- 100 frequency memories etc.
- -$725
-
- 2) Icom R70. Fine simple PLL synthesized receiver with all of the tuning
- aids needed for DX work: IF notch filter, Passband tuning, sharp filter
- RIT. All modes of operation. Predecessor to the R71A. Looks like it but
- has a forward facing speaker in place of the frequency keypad. No freq
- memories (except for Dual VFO's). To tune, one has MHZ up and MHZ down
- button and the tuning knob with three different granularities, 1khz, 100hz
- 10hz. RF wise same as the R71A or perhaps slightly better (according to some,
- but I believe the difference is the improved sound emanating from the
- forward facing speaker rather than the ceiling pointed one in the R71A).
- tunes ~DC to 30mhz
- -$425
