  14. OK, folks, the clues for PCWC 9 are all in.  It's time to vote for
  15. your favorites.  (Both clue submitters and non-submitters are allowed
  16. to vote.)  The remaining relevant dates for PCWC 9 are:

  19.   Tuesday   2 February             I'll post an annotated list of the
  20.                                    best-loved clues for PCWC 9.

  22. MODERATOR'S NOTE:  I'd like to point out that even though many cluers
  23. grumbled and groaned about the difficulty of the word, I received what
  24. may be a record number of entries.  So there.

  191. number.  To vote, send me a piece of Email (please make sure the string
  192. "PCWC" or "pcwc" appears in the subject, to make life easier for me) that

  210. This specifies a partial ranking of the clue numbers, with
  211.  
  212. 3 = 7 > 5 = 4 = 1 > 8 = 2 = 6

  214. The first line contains the numbers of the clues you like best; the
  215. second line those you like second best, etc.  Within a line, list
  216. clues numbers that you like about equally well in any order.  Any clue
  217. numbers that don't appear in your ranking will be added at the end on
  218. a line by themselves; all equal and worse than any that you did list.
  219. If you are lazy, you can just send me a single number of the clue
  220. you like best; note, however, that the greater an effort you make
  221. to differentiate between all the clues, the more accurate the results
  222. will be.  If you list a number more than once, you will be sent
  223. to the farm, immediately.

  225. Should you wish to make critical comments regarding any or all of the
  226. clues, your comments will be sent along to the authors anonymously
  227. provided that you preceed *each* line of your comments with the 
  228. clue number and right parenthesis, as in the following example:

  231. 12) clue much too difficult for a dumb solver such as myself.

  233. Please note that the lines with clue numbers in your voting should be
  234. bracketed by lines with only dashes, to facilitate automatic
  235. tabulation of the scores.

  237. Both clue submitters and non-submitters are allowed to vote.  You ARE
  238. allowed to vote for your own clue, but please try to be honest.  Of
  239. course, one vote per person; DON'T use multiple accounts or aliases to
  240. stuff the ballot box or encourage your cronies and cohorts to vote for
  241. your clue just so you can win.

  244. The scoring will be as in tournaments, with 1 point for each better
  245. ranking and 1/2 point for a tie.  So, for example, based only on the
  246. votes of Mr. Clinton above, the scoring (assuming there were 8 entries)
