- I'm interested to find out how many people take their dogs to work with
- them. I've been reading the group for some time now and every now and then
- there is a reference to someone "having their dog lying at their feet while
- keying on the keyboard". Now, are you at home using the modem or at work?
-
- I want to start to bring my dog to work because I want him to become used
- to people and different places. We are beginning Pet Therapy work
- (volunteering) and the hospital I am going to is in the opposite direction
- of my home from work. My dog is very obedient and will lay at my feet all
- day (he's a lab).
-
- I would be interested in such info as the following?
-
- Where do you work (private corp., college, etc.)?
- What do you do for a living?
- Do you have your own office, share one, have a cubicle, etc.?
- Where do you keep your dog at work?
- Is the dog crated or can roam?
- Do you work normal business hours (i.e., 9:00-5:00, M-F)? If not, when do
- you work?
- Did you have to get special permission to have your dog at work? If so,
- what kind of permission? What justification did you have to give to have
- your dog at work?
- Is your dog involved in any special programs that justifys having him/her
- at work?
-
- I appreciate your time and interest in this mini survey and will gladly
- post a summary.
-
- Thanks,
-

- P.S. I'll start off. I work at a private college (for the Computing
- Center). The college is located on 320 acres (plenty of land to romp
- around on at lunch time). I'm a Service Repair Manager. I have my own
- office located ajacent to my workshop. If I'm allowed to have my dog at
- work, on a permanent basis, I would keep him in my office and put a gate
- at my door. He would have full access to my office and I would bring his
- dog bed to work. We don't have a crate. I work basically 8:30-4:30
- usually. These are the college's business hours. I have brought my dogs
- to work when they have gone to the vet. I moved away and didn't want to
- change vets and my vet is 50min from where I live and only 5 min. from
- where I work. No one complained when I had my dogs here for vet visits.
- I'm not sure what the policy is here for pets in buildings. I don't think
- that there is one. I know that there is a state law in PA regarding
- discriminating against people who have seeing eye dogs, service dogs, etc
- in public places. This is not the case for me, though. The college I work
- for takes pride in the amount of community work that the students here do
- (very politically active). Why not for the staff that participate? I
- would hope that they would be accomodating!
-
- I would like to see how many other companies that will allow animals in the
- work place. Thanks for your help.
