- Hi,
-
- First off I want to thank everyone who replied to
- my questions about crating and different breeds.
- I received so much information that reading in books
- only reinforces what I learned on the Net.
-
- With this info I was able to pick a breed that would
- best suit our tastes and lifestyle, as well as our
- expectations as to what a dog should be.
-
- Well, Sat I got a new puppy. She is a 7week Gordon Setter
- and she is beautiful! Now I don't want to jinx myself
- by telling you all that she's done so far, but I can't resist!
-
- She entered our home at 6pm Sat. night, Jan 23. She was not
- in the least bit house trained. Well, on Sunday we bought
- her crate and Sunday night she slept in it. She whined for a bit
- but after about 7-8 shakes of the `penny can' and a sharp
- `No!' she settled down and slept.
-
- At 6am we got up and carried her out back to go. She shuffled
- around, peed and then came up to me and sat, waiting for me to
- take her in. She seemed to know what the outside was for!
-
- Well, Monday night she actually went to the door everytime she
- had to go out! We were shocked! When we went to bed
- *this time*, it only took 2 shakes of the penny can.
-
- This morning (Tues) she actually went into the crate on her
- own accord and nested right in to sleep! This is just too good
- to be true! Of course when I shut the gate she whined
- a little, but one shake of the penny can and she was quiet.
-
- If all Gordons are like this one, I can't see why they aren't
- the most popular dogs in the world! They are beautiful
- and smart! If things go even close to as well as they have been
- I would gladly raise or breed more!
-
- Oh, we don't have a name for her yet. We would like something
- Scottish or Irish but so far all we've come up with Guinness or
- Morgan. Any ideas? Her full name can only consist of
- 25 spaces and must include RAGGEDEDGE.
-
- bye for now
-
- Diane
